Guardians of the Galaxy

8/22/13 - Bradley Cooper is in early discussions to voice Rocket Raccoon for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  The role would give Cooper a chance to interpret a comicbook character that was deeply obscure for decades.  Rocket's look was finally revealed in sizzle-reel footage shown at Comic-Con and later at Disney's D23 Expo - he appears natural, like the critters who dig in your garbage can, as opposed to stylized comicbook versions down the years -- but his voice and personality were still a mystery, sparking speculation about whom Marvel would choose to bring him to life.  Vin Diesel was among the names floated for Rocket, though it's now strongly rumored that Diesel will voice the giant tree-like creature Groot.  Source: Rueters

6/3/13 - Benicio Del Toro has joined Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.  The film revolves around a U.S pilot who ends up in space during the middle of a universal conflict. The pilot does the only thing that one can do when in that situation -- go on the run with a bunch of ex-cons.  Source:

5/29/13 - Marvel Studios is courting Glenn Close to a major role in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Close may play a leadership role in Nova Corp, the intergalactic space patrol. The James Gunn-directed Guardians Of The Galaxy starts production in a month.  Source:

4/23/13 - Lee Pace is in final negotiations to play the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy.  The identity of Pace's villainous character is being kept under wraps.  The cast currently features Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, WWE star Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu. Ophelia Lovibond will also co-star in an unknown supporting role.  Source:

4/16/13 - Michael Rooker has been cast as one of the four founding superheroes of Guardians Of The Galaxy. He will play Yondu, who in Marvel lore was a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV, the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system. He eventually bands together with fellow fugitives to form the superhero team.  Source:

4/3/13 - Zoe Saldana is in talks to star in Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.  The actress is eyeing the role of Gamora, a green-skinned humanoid (and highly skilled assassin) who is the last of her kind in the universe.  She would star alongside Chris Pratt as the movie's lead, Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista, who is playing Drax the Destroyer (a human resurrected as a warrior bent on killing Thanos - the villain seen at the end of The Avengers).  Other members of the "Guardians" - led by Star-Lord - include Groot (an alien that resembles a massive walking tree) and Rocket Raccoon (a genetically engineered critter with a love of explosives and weapons) - who are both likely to be CGI characters.  Source: Access Hollywood

3/14/13 - Mixed martial artist and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy.  Bautista now becomes the second actor after Chris Pratt to join the project.  Galaxy centers on Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Pratt), a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone want.  Drax is a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the final-scene tease of Avengers). His powers include flight, super-strength and energy blasts.  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

2/5/13 - Chris Pratt will be the lead role in Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy.  The actor will play Star-Lord, the leader of a group of intergalactic heroes.  James Gunn is directing the film, which is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014. In addition to heading the team, Star-Lord is a master strategist who wears a suit that gives him superhuman strength. Together with a team that includes a raccoon, who is an expert marksman, and an oversized bramble who controls trees, the Guardians teleport around the cosmos preventing disasters.  Source:

8/2/12 - Chris McCoy will rewrite Guardians of the Galaxy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  While there have been several incarnations of the team in the comics over the years, the movie’s lineup will include Drax the Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final-scene tease); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien intergalactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.
