7/23/15 - Brie Larson is in talks to play the female lead in Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island. She will join Tom Hiddleston. Legendary is actively setting the two other male leads after the exit of both Michael Keaton and JK Simmons.  The film will be released by Universal Pictures on March 10, 2017. 7/1/15 - Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have exited Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island. Scheduling conflicts are believed to be the principal reason behind both actors’ departures. The project, which has Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing from a script written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, pushed back its production start by a few weeks. Tom Hiddleston remains on board.  Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni produce with Alex Garcia and Mary Parent, and Eric McLeod is exec producing. Universal Pictures will release the King Kong-inspired film in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 10, 2017.  Source: Deadline.com

He will join the previously announced Tom Hiddleston and JK Simmons.  Jordan Vogt-Roberts directs from a script written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce with Alex Garcia, and Eric McLeod is executive producing. 12/15/14 - J.K. Simmons is set to join Tom Hiddleston in Kong: Skull Island, the Legendary Pictures tent pole that Universal Pictures has set for March 10, 2017 release. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein that focuses on the wild island home of the iconic ape King Kong.  Skull Island‘s produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, with Alex Garcia exec producing.  Source: Deadline.com

 

9/16/14 - Tom Hiddleston has signed on to star in Legendary's King Kong origins story Skull Island, which will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.  Legendary announced plans to tackle the film, based on an original script by Max Borenstein, in July. Universal Pictures will distribute the film on Nov. 4, 2016. Source: The Hollywood Reporter

 

7/27/09 - King Kong will be coming back in Kong: King of Skull Island, a prequel to the well-known tale of the big ape, Variety reported. Producers at Spirit Pictures have picked up the rights to a book by that name which was written at the same time Peter Jackson was producing his 2005 remake of King KongKong: King of Skull Island, written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, focuses on the backstory of Skull Island and how the giant gorilla became king there. It introduces other giant gorillas and dinosaurs only hinted at in the previous films.  The plan is to produce the film using motion-capture technology.
