Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides 6/21/10 – In the next Pirates of the Caribbean, Johnny Depp's seafaring character Jack Sparrow will face a woman from his past and board another buccaneer's ship, Disney said on Monday. The studio also announced that production has started. The film hits theaters in 3-D on May 20, 2011. In the movie, Depp's popular Sparrow character will run into a woman from his past, played by Oscar winner Penelope Cruz, Disney said. She will force Sparrow onto the Queen Anne's Revenge, the legendary pirate ship run by Blackbeard, who will be played by Ian McShane. Once on-board, Sparrow will need to keep an eye out on both Blackbeard and Cruz's character. Both McShane and Cruz are new cast members on the latest "Pirates" movie, taking the place of head-liners Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
6/3/10 - Stephen Graham has come aboard Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as a sidekick to Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow, according to Variety. He'll portray Scrum, a Machiavellian pirate in Disney's fourth installment of the franchise in which Sparrow seeks out the fountain of youth. Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane are also starring and set for release May 20, 2011. Shooting begins this month in Hawaii with Rob Marshall helming from the script by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, who penned the previous pics. Jerry Bruckheimer returns as producer.
4/15/10 - The fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean added a mermaid in the form of French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Paris-based performer will play a fish-tailed beauty in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall said. The film, in which Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow, begins shooting in June in Hawaii, Britain and Los Angeles. It's slated for a May 20, 2011, release.
2/22/10 - Ian McShane is in negotiations to play the villain in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, directed by Rob Marshall, according to The Hollywood Reporter. McShane will play legendary pirate Blackbeard -- whose real name was Edward Teach -- who piloted the ship Queen Anne's Revenge. McShane will join Johnny Depp, reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and Penelope Cruz, Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways, in a tale that revolves around the Fountain of Youth. Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot wrote the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.
2/10/10 - Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp and sail the seven seas in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Depp is reprising his popular role of Captain Jack Sparrow, which is being directed by Rob Marshall. Most plot details are buried deeper than Blackbeard's treasure, but it is known that the tale revolves around the Fountain of Youth. Cruz's character details are also being kept secret, though she is to be Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways. Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot wrote the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing. Disney plans a May 20, 2011, release.
1/20/10 - The fourth installment of Disney's popular Pirates of the Caribbean series will be filmed in Hawaii. Johnny Depp will return to his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which will begin shooting this summer on Oahu and Kauai and be released in 2011. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall. The announcement was made by Gov. Linda Lingle, who recently met with Disney President and CEO Bob Iger.
1/7/10 - Disney set a May 20, 2011, release date for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the franchise, staking out Thor's original date.
10/21/09 – SCI FI Wire reported that a proposed fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie brings into question about whether it'll actually get made. Johnny Depp told the Los Angeles Times that his enthusiasm for a fourth outing as Captain Jack Sparrow had waned now that his longtime Disney ally, former chairman Dick Cook, has been booted out. Bill Nighy, who played squid-faced Davy Jones, said that any announcement about a sequel is premature. "I understand that there was an announcement that there was going to be a fourth, and now I've been told since that that was not a reliable announcement," Nighy said. A fourth movie depends a lot on whether Depp signs on. The series' producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, meanwhile, has been serious enough about a fourth film to approach director Rob Marshall to take over from Gore Verbinski, who directed the previous three installments. Still, Nighy's not writing a fourth installment off. "I'm pretty sure that there will be [a fourth]," Nighy said. "I would be amazed if there weren't, given the success of the first three."
9/25/08 - The daylong presentation at the Kodak Theatre, home of the Oscars, delivered repeated surprises as actors emerged onstage to tout animated 3-D movies, live-action thrillers and comedies--with animal co-stars ranging from guinea pigs and chihuahuas to humpback whales, the Associated Press reported. Walt Disney Co. previewed a sequel to its 1982 SF movie Tron, a 3-D motion-capture remake of A Christmas Carol and a Tim Burton remake of Alice Wonderland, with Johhny Depp as the Mad Hatter, in a presentation in Hollywood on Sept. 24, the Associated Press reported. Depp will also reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
