2/10/16 - Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the Han Solo stand-alone Star Wars movie was on course for a May 2018 release, despite speculations that the release date may be moved to December.  The confirmation was made during the Walt Disney earnings call this morning, where Iger also confirmed that filming on Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII had begun, and that Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX had entered production for a 2019 release.  With Star Wars: Episode VIII being moved from a May 2017 release to a December 2017 one, some were expecting the standalone anthology movies to undergo a similar reshuffling, but it looks like Disney is sticking to its blaster guns for those two films.  As for Episode IX, Iger didn’t give any specifics including whether or not the movie will keep its assumed May 2019 release date, or if it’ll be pushed back to December 2019.  Casting for the iconic role of a young Han Solo is still ongoing.  Source: Blastr.com

7/8/15 - Phil Lord and Chris Miller have signed on to direct a Han Solo origin story that will focus on the early days of young Han Solo and how he became the smuggler, thief and scoundrel who Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. The film will mark the second anthology film, after the Death Star plan heist pic Rogue One.  Lord and Miller said:  "This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you're late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all."  The screenplay is being written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan.  The Han Solo prequel film is tentatively set for a May 25, 2018, release.  Source: Blastr.com
