Immortals (aka War of the Gods)

4/7/10 - Relativity Media has changed the title of its Greek mythology tale from War of the Gods to Immortals—presumably to avoid confusion with the similarly themed Clash of the Titans or the upcoming God of War —and announced the casting of John Hurt and Isabel Lucas, Variety said; the movie has also gotten a Nov. 11, 2011, release date.

3/23/10 - Kellan Lutz has signed on to play the Greek mythological god of the sea, Poseidon, in the new big screen film War of the Gods, according to Variety.  He joins the already previously announced Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto and Henry Cavill in the cast.  The film follows Theseus (Cavill), a young warrior who leads his men into battle against immortal Greek gods.  Production is slated to begin in April and wrap in June.

3/3/10 - Mickey Rourke just signed to star as the villainous King Hyperion in War of the Gods opposite Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto, Variety reported. Tarsem Singh will be directing and filming will begin in April.  The mythical adventure follows Theseus, a young warrior, who leads his men into battle against the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind.  War of the Gods will be produced by Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton and Ryan Kavanaugh.  Jason Keller wrote the most recent draft of the script, based on an original screenplay written by Christian Gudegast.

11/6/08 - Relativity Media is negotiating with Henry Cavill to star as Theseus in the Tarsem Singh-directed War of the Gods, while Warner Brothers is in talks with Sam Worthington to play the role of Perseus in helmer Louis Leterrier's similarly themed Clash of the Titans remake, Variety reported.  Deals for both actors are expected to be worked out, keeping the Greek mythology-themed projects on a parallel track. Both films are expected to begin production by late winter or early spring.  The projects have different plots, but each film will be made for under $100 million because the visual effects will be accomplished using the green-screen techniques that made 300 so visually arresting.  Clash of the Titans is a remake of the 1981 film that tells the story of Zeus' son, Perseus, and his journey and battles against Medusa. Scripted by Lawrence Kasdan, the Warner film is a co-production with Legendary Pictures, produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road and Kevin De La Noy.

6/27/08 - Relativity Media is developing War of Gods.  Charley and Vlas Parlapanides wrote the script for War, which will be directed by Tarsem Singh.  War of Gods is set in war-torn ancient Greece, as the young warrior prince Theseus leads his men in a battle against evil that will see the gods fighting with soldiers against demons and titans.
